Title:Hawaiian Milo Four Poster Vessel
Material: Milo wood,
Size: 7" tall x 8 1/2" wide
One-of-a-kind Native Hawaiian Milo wood vessel, by master wood turner Dr. Craig Mason. The milo tree outgrew its back yard in Lanikai, Hawaii and had to be removed. Dr. Mason saved it from the wood chipper.
Four posters start with a hollow log cut so that it is longer than the log is wide. When the outside is turned, it leaves an area unturned on each side. Then it is hollowed through a small opening at the top until the inside is larger than the outside in the unturned areas. This results in holes on the sides as well as the naturally occurring holes on the ends, leaving only the wood between the holes.
Dr. Mason has been working with wood for more than 32 years, and uses only reclaimed wood...he never purchases wood or cuts down trees.
